Happy Birthday Carrie

We were supposed to take a birthday weekend trip to Granger (grandpa Peterson had one last week) but then Corrie got really sick yesterday :(

If she was born on the 29th, she'd only be 7 years old. Here's to a better day than yesterday!

Corrie quotes pt. 3

(water cup to medicine cup) "I am water to wash you down"
(medicine cup to water cup) "Oh, hi. And then you will be ALL GONE"

(playing outside) "Helloooo flowers... hope you sleep well."

"Good job, daddy - you did it! I am so proud of you!" (followed by a high-five)

(driving I-65 to Indy) "Why are there so...many...trucks?"

Hips better

Just got back from Indy for Mary's hips again. Everything seems to be in place so we are harness-free during the day but back in it at night.

On a side-note she is on to her third harness now! She outgrew the one she had been wearing... movin' on up to a size medium. Now to let those creases out..

Corrie quotes, part 2

(Passing a yellow VW beetle in the parking lot)
"We should buy some of those yellow cars and ride in them!"

"Where are we going?" ('We're going to the store') "Oh, I thought we were going to the ocean."
-long story, but we've told her about our vacation plans this summer...

('Corrie, what's 1 + 1?') "Two giraffes!"

(Flurries while driving) "There are bugs outside - they are blowing and sticking to our car!" ('Corrie I think those are just snowflakes..') Oh, I thought they were bees."

There's another one about an elephant in the VCR, but we got that on video.. so stay tuned :)

the Mary minute

Here's Mary enjoying some time out of the harness. She likes to kick around with it off, and shows you a brief smile. Corrie is still trying to steal the show in the background with "I..... I think I like asparagus!"

Reading

Corrie has discovered the big books on the bookshelf in our bedroom. Yesterday she carried the dictionary around saying it was a 'big pooh story'. I have found her 'reading' to her animals and dolls.

Today before nap I said I would read her two books. She picked out Pandy and the Little Bird (a favorite) and Hinds Feet on High Places (a paperback from mommy and daddy's bookshelf). She picked out Hinds Feet because of the deer pictured on the cover, and called it 'the deer book'.

I started reading Hinds Feet, about Much-Afraid and how she cared for the Good Shepherd's flock, etc.... It talked about the cottage she lived in and as I paused to turn the page she said, "Cottage?! I love cottage cheese...". We got about one more sentence when she politely closed the book and said, "Ok, we are done."

I think she's starting to feel better.

Corrie quotes

too long for the top of the blog now :P
  • "Why don't you get out of my bed so I can go to sleep?" -after reading her a bedtime story.
  • "Do you have any coupons?" -the day after we used the self-checkout machine at the grocery store
  • "What did you do??" (I burned my finger on the stew) "You have to be careful, daddy."
  • "Piggy! I'm coming upstairs!" (she left her little pig up there)
  • "Look at me, I'm dancing on my tippy-toes" (in front of the mirror)

"Rock-a-bye, Mary"

She had the beginnings of her cold/wheezing/cough thing, but you can make out a few cute lyrics:

"...Rockabye Mary, soon you go to sleep -I'm singing her her old favorite song- But when you wake up... but when you close your eyes, and go to sleep, don't worry...

But when you wake up, it will be all over, so don't cry... Ms. Corrie's here, and grandma's here...so you have to close your eyes, and go to sleep..

Dear Mary, I hope you go to sleep, because you have to close your eyes, I will give that pacifier back to you...."

Stay away from online Scrabble

It's nerve wracking. In this Battle of Brians, I skipped two turns... both times waiting to make a 7-letter play. Together, we made 3 of those so far (50-point bonus each time). I had all of 'bouquet' on my rack, but had to play it with only 6 letters.

I thought I was crushed until I played 'pregnant' on the triple word score. But with only 9 tiles left in the bag, I'm stuck with LLEEAAI :(

Oh, the drama.

tree-climbing weather

I'm probably going to start a 'Conversations with Corrie' series. I had in mind to start one that showed how she role-plays with her ducks and birds in the bath (maybe next time) because the dialogue gets pretty hilarious. This came up tonight, though, and I thought I would share.
Editors note: Yes, there are a few exclamation points in her quotes. This is because as she nears the end of her sentence, she becomes excited about reaching the goal of making her point and finishing the sentence. And her new favorite word is 'Yeah!'

Corrie (to her toy groom guy. Yes, like the one on the cake): ...No, you cannot eat trees...
Brian (thinking, 'oh, this should be good'): You can't eat trees? Why not?
C: Because trees are outside!
B: So you can't eat them because they're outside?
C: Yeah. But mommy climbs trees...
B: Mommy climbs trees?? When did mommy climb a tree?
C: Mommy climbed a tree...in our backyard!
B: Did she climb on the first branch? Or did she climb all the way to the top?
C: No, she could not climb all the way to the very top...She just climbed to the first one - that's all the far she could go.
B: Maybe when you get bigger, you can climb trees too.
C: Yeah, I can climb trees...when I'M a mommy! Do you like to climb trees??
B: I do like to climb trees. Maybe you can watch daddy climb a tree some day.
C: Does Grandma like to climb trees?
B: I don't know, why don't you go ask her.
C: goes downstairs to ask...

Just before bed, Carrie asks her again why you couldn't eat trees.
Answer: "Because trees are yucky. I want a snack!"

takes 1 and 2 of the sled slide

The Powells visited this weekend and we took turns on the sled. Some took more 'turns' than others. *rimshot*
