"Rock-a-bye, Mary"

She had the beginnings of her cold/wheezing/cough thing, but you can make out a few cute lyrics:

"...Rockabye Mary, soon you go to sleep -I'm singing her her old favorite song- But when you wake up... but when you close your eyes, and go to sleep, don't worry...

But when you wake up, it will be all over, so don't cry... Ms. Corrie's here, and grandma's here...so you have to close your eyes, and go to sleep..

Dear Mary, I hope you go to sleep, because you have to close your eyes, I will give that pacifier back to you...."

glimpses of Mary

A few things to catch in this clip: trying to get her thumb, hiccups, yawn, smile?, grabbing at the camera, and best of all - not crying! :)

the name game

A few tidbits about her name :)
  • 'Mary' is supposed to just be a nice name, a Christmas name, but not necessarily named after Mary the Mother of Jesus -- or because it means 'bitter'. (?)
  • Corrie is named after her great grandma Cora Graber, who also has a sister named Mary. Coincidence, really, but a nice one :)
  • She will probably not be called "MJ" like in Spiderman.
  • Mary J. Powell is not related to Mary J. Blige.
  • Noel Powell rhymed, but that's not necessarily a good thing.
  • Added bonus: Carrie's middle name is Marie.

baby related Fun Facts

More goodies from the book that Carrie bought me for Christmas:
  • One in every 2,000 babies is born fully clothed.
  • Geronimo was conceived while his parents were skydiving.
  • A baby has over ten different cries for strained lentils.
  • Jesus always felt shortchanged because his birthday fell on Christmas.
  • The baby on the Gerber label is a young William Shatner.
  • Two out of 5 airplane pilots have a child named 'Niner'.
  • The longest human pregnancy on record was 47 months.

Conversations...

A few things I have heard this week:

"Don't play with my hair mommy, it is for somersaults."

"Wipe. Flush. Pull your pants up and wash your hands... It's not rocket surgery, Corrie" (Brian)

Trying to explain to Corrie that her baby sister WILL come out soon (please Lord...)
Carrie: "See, here are the little diapers for baby sister..."
Corrie: "Those are not for baby sister. Baby sister is stuck."
Carrie: "No, mommy has to go to the hospital and pop her out."
Corrie: "Yes, baby sister will POP out and it will be loud!"

"Number Two"

Or 'Blob 2', that's what Dan and Nancy call their 2nd :) but this is becoming less of a blob and more of a little person. We'll let you know what we'll be naming her, but rest assured it will not be "Apple" or "Briana". Or "Number Two". We were just happy to see it wasn't a fish sandwich :)

Note the 'Powell arm' pose! (inside joke; Powell men, anyway, have traditionally chilled out with one of their arms resting on top of their head. Usually while sitting on a couch, the elbow sits over the head and the rest of the arm just hangs out. :) )

Riddle of the day:

What has 3 lines on an ultrasound, wears pink, and will probably be bossed-around by Corrie someday?

Answer: same as the poll------>
