birthday lunch

Wanted to go to Garcia's one last time.. and it turned into a birthday lunch :) Later, Corrie got to go for a swim in the Rountree's pool and play with a musical birthday card. I think she had a good day! She's been talking about seeing the grandparents for days now.. and calls the big moving truck a 'bus' because it's yellow.

Packing up the computer right now :( Back in about a week or so!

your Corrie fix

updates

1. We found an apartment. If you want our new address (effective May 31), let us know. Not sure about the phone number yet...and the cell number will change in the near future. My gmail address will stay the same, and we will of course update this blog! (Sorry, no pics from the weekend whirlwind - too crazy to even get out the camera)

2. The finger is much better, thank you. The staph infection is gone and the incision is healing nicely. I will not post the pic I took of the day after the incision - sorry to disappoint :)

3. We're having a yard sale at the Rountree's this Saturday at 7am! Bring stuff to sell or money to buy :) Also, a pool party bash of some kind. Derek Price is also leaving town, so come fill the pool with your tears for all of us.

4. Corrie will be 2 next Thursday. Since we're leaving the next morning, the party is postponed to the following Sunday with both of our families up in Indiana...but feel free to sing Happy Birthday to her sometime!

5. We'll post something besides text tomorrow. Promise.

saga intermission

We'll take a break with a few random things:
We'll post after our weekend of apartment hunting and finger recovery!

The saga continues...

After two days of antibiotics, it hadn't improved. It didn't spread any further, but the local area actually became worse. Today the saga continued a bit:11am - Went to see Dr. Colucci for my 6-month cancer checkup. Everything still clear, so that was great news :) She told us that she's leaving too (Wisconsin) and that they can send my chart up to whomever I find up in Indiana. She didn't know much about infections.
12:15pm - Stopped by the Wound Care dept. across the street where our friend Marquita works (they helped me with my 30-staple 'zipper' before). Her and the other nurse both said it needed to be opened and drained, but no doctors where there on Thurs. and F
ri. I took the girls home and headed back to Urgent Care.
1pm - Dr. Grace saw it and said "Oh, J****", meaning it had become worse when he expected it to get better. I'll spare you the details, but after a few shots of Lidocaine (sp?) and an incision that almost made me want to join in the cursing, I was all bandaged up and ready for more drugs.
2:30pm - Picked up the girls, grabbed a late lunch at Garcia's and tried to figure out how we could still do the Indy trip. This is when the pain meds started to feel good (whereas now I'm about to pass out).
Moral of the story? Wear big gloves when you check a bunch of 'dorm' rooms :P

Saga of a finger

Some of you want us to post more than just Corrie. Well, you asked for it - and this is what you get :)

Just google 'spider bite' images and you'll see why I began to get worried about my left index finger. I was pretty sure it was just an infection, but it was getting worse so I wanted to 'get it checked out'. It started with a small cut on my finger (a little blister?) Sunday or Sunday night, and then after I had finished closing the building (flipping mattresses over....yuck?) it all started. Here is the healthcare saga of a finger:

Monday, 6:30am - The finger woke me up. All day Monday it felt like someone held a lighter to it (for the surface pain) and/or squeezed it with a pair of piers (for the inside pain).
7:15pm: - Went to the Urgent Care clinic with Corrie (mom went to the movie at 7).
9:24pm - Left the "Urgent" Care clinic in disgust. I had made it as far as the nurse, but no doctor came. They supposedly close at 9pm.
Sometime in here is when I wrote the bad review on google maps...
1:15am - Finally finished some end-of-the-year reports and thought about going to the ER. It had begun to spread past my knuckle and inflame the back of my hand. Looked like a sunburn. This is when I looked online at spider bites that had fingers bursting open :( Decided I could go to sleep and get up early in the morning.

Tuesday, 5:45am - Finger woke me up again.
6:45am - Went to the ER. Saw the big sign with 'alternative' places for care, and that the clinic by Kroger opens at 7:30am and the Urgent Care opens at 8am. I decided to leave the ER.
7:40am - no one showed up to open the clinic by this time.
7:55am - I arrived at the Urgent Care for a 2nd time (I had already paid $30 last night, so I thought I'd try again)
8:45am - finally got to see the doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics. He said it's not bad enough to cut open. Also got a tetanus shot. Their pharmacy didn't open until 9am, so I went to Walgreens.
8:55am - Walgreens said it would be 10-15 minutes, so I helped a guy jump-start his car in the parking lot. Also discovered standing water in the lower part of the trunk where the tire and cables were...
9:37am - finally got home and took my antibiotics. I go back in two days.

So, hopefully I don't lose part of my finger - or have it split open for a couple weeks while I'm trying to move! I also hope it's not a staph infection, as that could be bad for me if it's gets into my bloodstream.

I also have my last Bowling Green oncology visit this Thursday... but I did my labs a few weeks ago (had to reschedule a couple of times since then.) I assume the labs and x-ray were OK, otherwise they would've called me by now (?)

The Blanket Had "Owies"

I came in after Corrie's nap the other day to find her like this... somehow she had managed to grab the bandaids from the dresser next to her bed. She had been quiet for a long time. I thought she was sleeping but apparently she was not. Oh well.

girl talk

OK, so back to the Corrie posts :P
A few days ago, I was on the phone from internship and Carrie put our little girl on the phone for a minute. She used to just listen and say 'yess', but now she's talking up a storm. It went something like this:

Me: "Hi Corrie.."
Corrie: "Me go to the potty!"
Me: "You went to the potty?"
Corrie: "Yesh. Go eat marshmawwohs"
Me: "OK, go eat your marshmallow. I'll see you when I get home, OK?"
Corrie: "Yesh. Byyee"
Me: "Bye bye"

She has actually had better conversations with some of you, but you need an interpreter (mom or dad) to know what's she's saying :) It's hard to believe 2-years-old is almost here...

Part two:
Me: "Hi Corrie!"
Corrie: "Hi daddy..."
Me: "Where did you go?"
Corrie: "..."
Me: "Did you go see Shelly, and Lewis?"
Corrie: "Yess.."
Me: "What did you eat?"
Corrie: "PASHTAH!" (lasagna?)
Me: "You ate pasta!??"
Corrie: "Yesh"
Me: "What are you doing now?"
Corrie: "Talking phone with daddy"
Me: "And what else are you going to do?"
Corrie: "Go pay with mommy" (play)
Me: "OK, can you give the phone back to mommy?
Corrie: "Yess.. byyeee!"

Allll aboarrrrd!

It's true: I will soon be making boilers up in West Lafayette, IN, as an Academic Advisor in the Undergraduate Studies Program at Purdue University. (Whew! Is that enough links?)

It is bittersweet. While we love WKU, Bowling Green and especially our 'family' at Westminster, we had decided that the top factor in our future was to move closer to family. Hopefully, we'll get to talk with you more in person about it all :) Stay tuned for updates on the move, Corrie's birthday, graduation, etc. etc.

old school

This was my first experience with a computer, circa 6th grade. If you never ventured out on the Oregon Trail, I highly recommend this old-school game. Other favorites: Picadilly, Carmen Sandiego, and others. In 7th grade, I learned Q-Basic and wrote a little program to show stats on Michael Jordan... like a virtual basketball card. Well, just the back of one. What a dork.

Note: I must be a little rusty. Carrie always dies and Corrie gets a broken leg! :( So sad.. I am getting better at hunting though. I'll try again this weekend :P
